Five Days! Four Plays! The Spring of 2024 ushers in our New Works play-reading festival. Whether comedy or drama, musical or straight play, we promise you stories you’ve never heard before. Join us! Meet the artists, hear their original work, and engage in the conversations about what makes great theatre great.

About the festival
Next spring will see our inaugural new works festival, where we’ll celebrate the creative spark that launches every new work for the stage. In April of 2024, New Art City will invite up to four (4) writing teams to Ventura where staged readings of their latest projects will be presented to theatre fans from the Central Coast and beyond. Festival ’24 attendees will get the opportunity to interact with the artists, participate in feedback sessions to help writers advance their pieces, and learn more about the process a writer goes through in creating original theatre. It’s a stimulating, exciting and often moving experience not to be missed.
While New Art City Theatre is an emerging professional company, we’ve already successfully produced two similar full-length readings of large cast musicals. Theatre lovers in our region enthusiastically turned out to attend these free events and to champion the NACT mission:

If you’re a playwright, librettist, composer, or lyricist, we welcome your submission, regardless of your age, race, religion, or previous success or experience. We strongly believe in letting the work speak for itself. That’s why we keep our selection process blind.
